10/2 Earth Science update and homework due 10/9

Hi all!

Today we had a great time doing one of my favorite experiments, the Diabolical Diaper Dilemma!  I had the kids create an experiment in order to find out which on of four different diapers held the most….water…  Turns out that Luvs seemed to be the best "water" holder for the price.  Many of the groups got more than one liter of water in a single diaper!  That's over 1 kilogram of water or 2.2 pounds in one diaper!

For homework this week there are two assignments:

1.  Think of an experiment.  Not this week but next week, I'd like everyone to conduct their own experiment at home and bring it to class.  I'll give more details in class next week about how this is going to work but for now, come up with an experiment you can do at home.  It should be fairly simple.  Something that takes about an hour or two to do at home.  Bring in your experiment proposal to the next class.  Feel free to email me if you want to check in about your experiment ahead of time.  So, to be clear, just bring your experiment idea to class next week.  The week following you will be doing the experiment at home and presenting it in class.

2.  Use the following template to write up todays Diaper Lab in a lab report format.
